About us cross

The Retreat Association office provides an information resource for those involved in retreat work (both in Retreat Houses and the local community) and spiritual direction, offering advice and information to individual inquirers, parishes and various groups, by phone, fax, and letter or in person.

The Association continues to develop a network of contacts around the country who can help link people up with an appropriate spiritual director.

The Retreat Association is a body in association with Churches Together in England (CTE) and Wales (CYTUN). Its Executive Officer convenes CTE's Spirituality and Prayer Coordinating Group.

Increasingly the Association is providing resources for those inquirers who are seeking to further their spiritual journey but are not part of the established church. These people are sometimes on the edges of the church because they feel hurt, disillusioned or no longer nourished by it. Others have never been a part of a church and have no desire to do so.

The Retreat Association publishes the annual journal Retreats and some twenty leaflets on various types of retreats, prayer, spiritual accompaniment and quiet days. The Association promotes retreats in the media, by responding to enquiries from the press, radio and television and producing press releases and feature articles about retreats, spirituality and Retreat Association activities.

The Association stimulates training opportunities for those engaged in retreat leadership and spiritual direction and produces a list of relevant training courses. It provides an opportunity for those running training courses to come together once a year for a twenty-four hour consultation and facilitates networking and communication between retreat houses.

The Association has established the third Saturday in June each year as the Annual Quiet Day and encourages and advises people planning a quiet day, offering the support of a quiet day information pack.
