Trustee with law and governance expertise

The Charity has recently undergone some changes to its governance and constitution. As a result we are seeking to appoint a trustee with charity law and governance experience to join our board of trustees and help to provide leadership and guidance in these areas.

The main duties of the role would be: to advise the Retreat Association’s Executive Director and Trustees on governance and charity law; to be proactive in providing guidance to the Retreat Association’s Executive Director and Trustees on any governance issues that arise in the course of the Retreat Association’s business; to keep up to date with changes in governance and charity law requirements and to advise the Retreat Association’s Executive Director and Trustees of issues of relevance to the Retreat Association.

We are seeking someone with at least 3 years experience in governance and charity law, including previous experience as a charity trustee. They would also need to be a practising Christian who is sympathetic to the work of the RA and able to share the vision of offering support to those looking for stillness and silence in their lives. They would need to be able to work collaboratively with the Retreat Association’s Director and Trustees and be an effective communicator.

The trustees meet 4 times a year (daytime, usually in London) as well as one 2-day meeting at a central location every two years. This appointment would also involve membership of the operations sub-committee, which meets 4 times a year.

Further information and an application form can be obtained from Alison MacTier, Executive Director, 01494 569056,
