Notes
Walsingham has been a place of pilgrimage since 1061 when Lady Richeldis received a vision from the Virgin Mary to build a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. Destroyed at the Reformation, and restored in 1931, the Anglican Shrine Church contains the Holy House and an image of Mary and her Son. The Shrine is open daily and a full pilgrimage programme is offered from Easter to October for groups and individuals (modified programme at other times). Special events throughout the year include the National Pilgrimage; Youth Pilgrimage; young adult, children, families, healing and renewal pilgrimages; Advent and Priest' retreats. Details of these and the pilgrimage programme are on the website. The Shrine welcome individuals seeking quite time away and independently-contained accommodation if required. The refectory caters for up to 200 and the fully-licensed cafe bar is open daily, serving light lunches, home made cakes etc.
