In this challenging title, the author invites us to imagine what it might be like to take our faith out of our churches and onto the streets for one day - Ash Wednesday. The book beautifully chronicles a day in which Sara, a lay minister, takes part in outdoor services, offering ashes on the streets and includes trying to help a destitute man and uncomfortable conversations with neighbours. From this experience she concludes that the blessing of Ash Wednesday is that, although we are going to die, we are all connected to God beyond death. She admits that it can be safer to worship indoors but challenges us to leave the confines of church buildings and engage on the streets where we live.
